Three years ago Barnstable Academy applied and was granted

membership into the prestigious National Honor Society. This

Chapter accepts students who meet its rigorous criteria within

the areas of Scholarship, Character, Service, and Leadership.

Since its inaugural year, the Barnstable Academy Chapter has

grown in both distinction and number of applicants. NHS is

known to be a highly competitive and academic organization,

which has incited our students to work harder and participate

in more community service in order to be eligible for

induction. The dedication our NHS students show towards

their education and role in the community has encouraged

them to individually create service projects and participate in a

tutoring program within Barnstable. Due to its success in

motivating our students, this year we have expanded our

Chapter to include the National Junior Honor Society for

eighth graders as well.

The “Blazing Bengal” serves as Barnstable’s student-run

newspaper.  Written and created by the students in the

journalism elective, the “Blazing Bengal” offers an

opportunity to share a students’ perspective on current

events as well as school issues and activities. Our

journalism elective encourages students to step into the

role of a reporter, conduct interviews, and construct

articles for the newspaper.
